While Massoud was acting because, in 2011, he had been thrust into stardom. After that, he had been cast from the titular role for its Disney live-action Aladdin reboot. Lately, Massoud posted a shirtless black and white picture of his Instagram, which comprised the caption reading, “Hey, just so that you understand, once I escape, I will not hurt any of you.” To some, this might look like an odd piece of reassurance that the exact fit celebrity is not gonna demanding his Instagram followers, but most on social media were quick to determine the importance of the caption. It could really be a quotation spoken with a specific personality from the animated series Star Wars Rebels.
In the next season of the struck Star Wars series The Mandalorian, many audiences were introduced to an ex-Jedi Padawan called Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson). Some Star Wars buffs would instantly recognize Ahsoka out of her prior character in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and its own follow-up Star Wars Rebels, but Season two of That he Mandalorian indicated the first time that the personality made a live-action look. In the event titled The Jedi, Ahsoka faces an evil Magistrate and asks her about Grand Admiral Thrawn’s positioning. To some, this title left them perplexed. Still, lovers of Rebels realized it instantly and understood its possible, hinting at a different animated personality making his live-action introduction: fellow Jedi Padawan Ezra Bridger.
At the last period of Star Wars Rebels, orphaned street rat-turned-Jedi trainee Ezra Bridger confronted Imperial antagonist Grand Admiral Thrawn ahead of both disappeared after being taken into hyperspace by some giant distance whales (it makes sense when you visit it). Initially, this looked like the ending of Bridger. However, his departure was not confirmed. After the show ended with Ahsoka and fellow Rebel Sabine Wren heading off to hunt for him, supporters started to bet on his return. After Ahsoka left her live-action introduction, revealing that she was looking to get Thrawn, Ezra Bridger’s return into the Galaxy Far, Far Away appeared inevitable.
Ever since Disney confirmed that there would be a Mandalorian spin-off series focusing on Ahsoka, Massoud was rumored to be considered for Ezra. He certainly shows an uncanny resemblance to the character and is roughly the right age. It’s also fitting because Ezra Bridger was likely inspired by Aladdin: a street rat surviving as a thief who goes on to prove himself to be more than meets the eye. In the Instagram post, Massoud seems to be quoting Ezra Bridger from the season 2 episode Stealth Strike, when the empire captures Ezra. While this isn’t confirmation that Massoud has been cast in the role, it seems like a pretty strong hint. But who knows, maybe this another case of actor trolling fans, as was when Paul Bettany teased a surprise guest appearance in WandaVision, who turned out to be himself.
